HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy - Analysis

1. What is your reaction to the text you just read? Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was surprisingly funny. It uses sarcasm and humor to address human greed by politicians and also confronts how people are just like sheep’s being led. 2. What connections did you make with the story? Discuss what elements of the story with which you were able to connect? Progress VS. Arthur Dent... they wanted to knock down his home for the sake of progressiveness. They needed to build a highway. And the ironic aspect was that Arthur was saved from evaporation from the destruction of the Earth because they needed to build a quicker route through the universe.  3. What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium? What medium would you choose; what changes would you make? I’d make it a play or a skit on a tv show. It’s a hysterical way to show the world how greedy humans can be. This is most definitely a display of science fiction parody and satire. It’s similar to some

BloodChild Analysis

1. What is your reaction to the text you just read? The story was shocking but at the same time compelling. It led me to try to get totally into it so as not to miss anything important.  2. What connections did you make with the story? Discuss what elements of the story with which you were able to connect? The story led me to see how one species can control another and the survival of both species depends on their willingness to cooperate. Watching Gan struggle with his choice to be impregnated by the centipede or pass it off to his sister or commit suicide left me feeling sympathy for him. It was an awful choice either way. 3. What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium? What medium would you choose; what changes would you make? I would choose a tv series and I wouldn’t make any changes. The story is very compelling and leaves you wanting more. 4. Are there elements of this work that you would consider afro-futurist? There are definitely e

I Live with you - Analysis

I live with you was a crazy weird story. I recently had just watched Parasite and it reminded me a lot of the plot in that movie. The narration is strange it also reminded me of the show You on Netflix which I despise. I have to say this short story is creative but I hate the narrator. The story basically did its job and made me feel uncomfortable.

Ready Player One - Analysis

Ready Player One was a great read. I enjoyed the story of an underdog overcoming the odds and ultimately winning. This story is quite like another story that I loved growing up, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. You have to be chosen in a way to really understand the clues left behind by Halliday thus the "golden ticket". There is also selling the secrets of The Everlasting Gobstopper to the enemy present within this story. The equivalent to that is some characters work for the enemy to divulge secrets. Lastly, the idea that the most deserving and humble character walks away with the prize is similar. However, the difference is people know they are fighting for ownership of Halliday's assets wherein Willy Wonka that information is withheld. I really liked this story and had a good time reading about the trails.

The Drowned Giant - Analysis

When reading this short story, I found it odd that no one reacted or freaked out a lot about the proof of giant existence in this world. If they found one washed ashore and others were alive then whos to say they wouldn't search for this one and find it horrific that the people on this land were using the bones for architectural purposes. However, it could also mean that since this giant was washed up and the narrator of the story describes the facial features in a way that is reminiscent of a person of high social standing, thus proving my point that this giant was killed and exiled and there was reason to do so because they had something to gain from killing it. I enjoyed the references towards Homer in this short story and I find it funny that I always end up finding something connected to classical greek myth in most stories. I always end up gravitating towards those stories more. This idea that there is another universe with giants is a strange one and in this day and age it w

The Martian Analysis

What I really enjoyed about The Martian is the style of narration from the perspective of the main character of the story, I can really get engaged into my reading when the character is having a conversation with the reader. I really enjoyed this reading because of how easy it is for me to latch onto the conversation. "If the Oxygenator breaks down, I’ll suffocate. If the Water Reclaimer breaks down, I’ll die of thirst. If the Hab breaches, I’ll just kind of explode. If none of those things happen, I’ll eventually run out of food and starve to death. So yeah. I’m fucked." The casual way the story starts is super great and funny. I love a story with a character who is a bit cynical yet slightly optimistic because they except their fate so they are going to make the best of their situation and be as sarcastic as possible. This story really pulls me in because I'm used to seeing very complex science fiction situations and I just lose interest from all of the complexity withi

Anansi Boys

I was very excited to read something based on mythology. However, I did not flow into reading this book as well as I would've liked to. The concept of having someone trying to take your place is interesting, but not interesting enough to really capture my attention. Although, it was interesting to see something written about a trickster god and other gods based on animals. I am really used to reading about Greek myth. There are weird moments that I was not expecting, like the whole birds flying out of the mouth deal. Which in my mind I can picture a really cool scene unfolding but I still just did not take enough interest as I thought I would.
