1. What is your reaction to the text you just read?
The story was shocking but at the same time compelling. It led me to try to get totally into it so as not to miss anything important. 
2. What connections did you make with the story? Discuss what elements of the story with which you were able to connect?
The story led me to see how one species can control another and the survival of both species depends on their willingness to cooperate. Watching Gan struggle with his choice to be impregnated by the centipede or pass it off to his sister or commit suicide left me feeling sympathy for him. It was an awful choice either way.
3. What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium? What medium would you choose; what changes would you make?
I would choose a tv series and I wouldn’t make any changes. The story is very compelling and leaves you wanting more.
4. Are there elements of this work that you would consider afro-futurist?

There are definitely elements of Afrofuturism in this story. The author hints at elements of racism and consensual sex. She uses names that ring a similar bell to some African mythology names for the characters. It leads you to think about how these elements fit into a sci-fi story.

When another character that is dependant upon them is brought into the mix, the relationship grows in an unexpected direction. Thus, Louis is pissed. Not only does he have eternal life, but eternal life with someone who provokes him and has an alternate set of morals that does not mirror Louis's own. The Martian Analysis

What I really enjoyed about The Martian is the style of narration from the perspective of the main character of the story, I can really get engaged into my reading when the character is having a conversation with the reader. I really enjoyed this reading because of how easy it is for me to latch onto the conversation. "If the Oxygenator breaks down, I’ll suffocate. If the Water Reclaimer breaks down, I’ll die of thirst. If the Hab breaches, I’ll just kind of explode. If none of those things happen, I’ll eventually run out of food and starve to death. So yeah. I’m fucked." The casual way the story starts is super great and funny. I love a story with a character who is a bit cynical yet slightly optimistic because they except their fate so they are going to make the best of their situation and be as sarcastic as possible. The Corn and the Spring Queen - Witches Analysis

What I enjoy most about witches is when they bring pagan rituals into the story. The title screams pagan. Some rituals like this can be twisted because they benign but then they end up being terrifyingly brutal. For example, MidSommar is sort of an example of that. Then there is also Sabrina, they have some weird traditions that they keep in touch with that seems less satanist and more pagan (EX. moon bathing under the Hare moon.). Then there is also this extreme nod towards Greek mythology within this book. As a huge fan of greek mythology myself, I found this to be quite entertaining. However, Greek blood is not helpful towards being a witch which is weird because Circe is one of the first witches and she comes from Greek myth. She is a daughter of Helios who is a Titan so her being a witch is of great controversy among the gods and goddesses. Otherwise great a read.
